Contact AuthorI entered this world once the war had concluded, but my family was starting over from scratch. They were laying new foundations and rebuilding from ground zero. My earliest memories are marked by an environment where every penny was meticulously accounted for and allocated. The lingering effects of the war and the hardships afterwards became entrenched in our family history, a tale not unique to us but shared by countless others. It is challenging to put the past behind when its reminders are evident everywhere, metaphorically, and literally.
Countless youngsters who choose to stay in Nigeria are plagued by depression and other mental health disorders. Several meet their demise; many feel the sting of solitude and succumb to criminal acts and vicious slayings. As for myself, within my resilience, it feels like I have left my family in the place I once called home. I harbor aspirations that I am determined to see come to fruition, and my unwavering belief fuels my journey. These are the elements that propel me forward.
The topic of initiating a business venture is seldom discussed. For most Nigerians I am acquainted with in America, we've become accustomed to our routines and have allowed ourselves to be placed into predefined roles based on our education, profession, and academic journey. Many are nudged towards the healthcare sector, particularly nursing or medicine. I aim to assist these individuals, my Nigerian compatriots, in breaking free from the sense of tirelessly toiling without making substantial progress.
The notion of easy money is a fallacy. Expanding your horizons, as I have done, does not guarantee instant wealth; it requires dedication and perseverance. When situations take an unfortunate turn or mistakes occur, as they did for this Nigerian man, it is essential to face these challenges with integrity. Back in the day, I remember it was quite a sight to see him cruising around our locale in a luxurious Lexus while the rest of us could barely scrape together enough money to own a vehicle. He delighted in the notion of being our community's 'big shot,' and many admired and envied him.
